Who Am I
Hi, my name is David Ju. My parents immigrated to the United States for their studies and gave birth to me in New York. I then spent my childhood in Maine until I was seven. However, due to work, my parents returned to China. From then on, I lived in Shanghai and attended an American school until I graduated high school. I plan on returning to Shanghai after I complete my graduate degree. I am like my parents because I am ambitious. I would say that my bicultural upbringing allows me to analyze issues and situations through different perspectives and be relatively more open-minded. I am partially operating under someone else's expectations. My parents have hustled and provided me a lot of privileges, and I do not want to disappoint them. I honestly have never thought about role models outside family members, but I guess Leonardo DiCaprio does a fine job using his platform to raise awareness about the environment. I feel like I have a special connection with the koala. The whole situation with the pandemic and online learning is burning me out, and I am often feeling tired. An interesting encounter with a plant would be that I once received chrysanthemum instead of roses during Valentine's Day because my last name has the same pronunciation as chrysanthemum in Chinese.

Hi David, I can feel what you are saying about your parents that they have supported and provided you a lot of privileges, so you feel that you don't want to disappoint them. My parents are exactly the same and in one way it is amazing, but on the other hand it puts a lot of pressure on us to try and fulfill their expectations as well.
ReplyDeleteHello David,
ReplyDeleteVery interesting read. Having similar bicultural upbringing, I feel very relatable to your comment of being able to see things through lenses and the open mindedness. Also congra-Ju-lations on receiving chrysanthemum on Valentine’s Day!

Hi David, I also relate to having a bicultural upbringing. It allows me to see things from different perspectives. I love learning about different cultures and seeing how it is similar or different from my culture.
ReplyDeleteHi, Online learning has also burnt me out this past year. But I am pushing through to try and finish schooll!
ReplyDeleteHi David. It was great to read your blog. I have also experienced a long distance family move, so I definitely respect you for getting through multiple. I also really respect Leo DiCaprio for using his platform to educate people on large-looming issues, and I really enjoy his movies as well. I also can relate to the way the pandemic has made you feel, but as you mentioned, it's important to keep hustling no matter what.
